Last month, Governor Evers announced his proposed budget for 2025-26. I was thrilled that he included in his budget a comprehensive set of measures which would reduce gun violence and make our communities safer.
This includes funding the Office of School Safety as well as fully funding the Office of Violence Prevention, which will allow community violence intervention programs across Wisconsin to continue the lifesaving work they are doing.
But here’s the rub: he included similar priorities in his budget two years ago, and the Joint Finance Committee removed them all. This time, we have to make sure they keep these lifesaving initiatives in the budget.
Now, the Joint Finance Committee is collecting budget feedback. You can submit a comment by emailing [email protected] [[email protected]] with your thoughts .
It’s essential that we provide feedback on the need to fully fund the Office of School Safety and the Office of Violence Prevention. With funding for programs like these on the chopping block federally, we must support their work at the state level to ensure their survival.
I know it can sound intimidating to give budget feedback, but it’s actually much easier than most people think. We created this resource to help you craft a short, impactful comment. [[link removed]] Once you’re done, just send it to the finance committee’s email address [[email protected]] .
