John,
People across the country are fed up with both parties bowing down to billionaires. They want to tax the rich now. They want to keep Social Security and expand Medicare. They are sick and tired of corporate greed running rampant in our policy-making.
In a democracy, power should be in the hands of workers, community members, and democratically accountable representatives—not billionaires who are trying to enrich themselves at our expense. We’re calling for a different system, where our basic needs like healthcare are guaranteed, not privatized for profit. I won’t back down in the fight for a government that serves the people.
I will always speak truth to power: I’ve sent letters, signed onto amicus briefs, and supported legislation to protect civil and constitutional rights, public education, Social Security, Head Start, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Urban and Community Forestry grants, illegally fired workers, immigrants, veterans, the postal service, and more.
I’ve met with federal workers and groups like the Michigan Parent Teacher Association, hosted Know Your Rights workshops, and joined rallies in Washington D.C. and in my district demanding no cuts to our care and no tax cuts for billionaires. I joined activists outside a nearby Republican Congressman’s office to protest proposed cuts to Medicaid:
Right now, the richest people in the world are in Trump’s cabinet, and they’re trying to turn us against each other to distract us from their concentration of wealth and power. They’re scapegoating the most vulnerable (including immigrants, Black and brown people, and trans people).
We can’t let them: It’s on us to speak up and defend our shared humanity and our constitutional rights to free speech and due process—which apply to everyone who lives here, regardless of immigration status. I will keep resisting the fascist suppression of dissent and illegal kidnappings of immigrants across the country. We won’t back down in the fight for our rights.
This Monday represents our first big fundraising deadline of the year. Will you chip in what you can today to help fight back against dehumanization, fascism, and cuts to essential services—and push for the human rights we all deserve, like universal healthcare, clean drinking water, freedom of movement, and truly affordable housing.
I’m using my position on the House Financial Services Committee to question people about Trump's conflicts of interest, and my position on the House Oversight Committee to push for transparency, to hold Trump and Musk accountable, and stand up against the Trump administration’s illegal actions.
The Trump administration is continuing to abduct people off the streets, including students who’ve spoken up for human rights and immigrants with valid work visas for no named reason. One legal permanent resident was kidnapped from a Boston airport and tortured during interrogation; he remains behind bars without charges.
This is deeply concerning and threatens anyone who speaks out against Trump’s agenda. These violations of our due process rights are also racist: Agents have taken some Native and brown U.S. citizens from their families, only releasing them after being shown Social Security cards or Tribal IDs.
I’ve been demanding accountability from the Department of Homeland Security, including leading my colleagues in advocating to release detained students immediately. I won’t stop fighting for everyone’s human and constitutional rights.
I will continue pushing back against state violence, and pushing instead for a government that upholds people’s rights and invests in people’s needs.
My team has returned over $6.2 million directly back into the pockets of our residents, invested over $52 million in our communities, and assisted more than 10,000 families. We recently helped four residents who received over $136,000 in Social Security benefits they were owed, and who were approved for continued benefits.
In addition to introducing legislation to support families with direct cash assistance, I’m also prioritizing constituent services to immediately change the lives of my district’s residents. I’ve trained my colleagues in Congress on how to do this in their districts, because we are here to make people’s lives better, however we can.
Please chip in to stand up to Trump and demand a government that invests in people’s human rights to housing, healthcare, education, and more. With your support, I’m fighting in Congress for a government that actually serves the people, not the billionaires.

Thank you for continuing to push for the world we deserve, where all of us can thrive. We have power together, inside and outside the halls of government.
With you in this fight,
