Donald Trump has been criticizing judges left and right for holding him
and his far-right administration accountable to the Constitution, but he’s
praising one judge who let him off the hook.
Last week at the Department of Justice, Trump called far-right extremist
Judge Aileen Cannon, who dismissed his classified documents case, “The
absolute model of what a judge should be.”
Cannon’s decision to toss the case and refuse to hold Trump accountable
went against 50 years of precedent on special counsel authority, including
a ruling from the Supreme Court.
This is a disturbing preview of the partisan, right-wing judiciary he will
seek to build with hundreds of potential appointments awaiting. By the end
of his second term, there is a real chance President Trump will have the
chance to appoint half of all active federal judges.
