John, over 18,000 Common Cause members called the Senate to demand they put guardrails on government funding to block Musk’s illegal actions. [1]
But Chuck Schumer ignored us. Instead, he and 61 other senators voted to give Elon Musk a blank check for his tyrannical agenda of tax breaks for billionaires and draconian cuts for the rest of us.
Common Cause won’t sit silent when our leaders fail at their jobs. Schumer and the senators who voted with him sold out millions of Americans – putting our schools, our healthcare, and our democracy in Musk’s line of fire.
So, this week, we’re putting the spotlight on him – in Times Square:
In the most popular tourist destination in the country – in the heart of Schumer’s home state, we’re asking the question everyone is thinking: “What the f*ck, Chuck?”
John, we want to be clear: Common Cause is nonpartisan. We don’t support or oppose any political party. But until Chuck Schumer and the Democratic leadership act like the opposition party they claim to be, we can’t let up the pressure.
This is the first step of many as we demand real leadership – and that every elected official at every level of government, from Congress down to state legislatures, do whatever it takes to protect the people they serve from Trump and Musk’s attacks.
And if they won’t do what’s right – as the People’s Lobby, we are ready to step and fill the gap.
That means making them answer for their votes at town halls, educating voters about how politicians are letting them down, and hearing from folks in all 50 states about how they want the people they sent to Washington to start working for them, not against them.
In the coming weeks, you’ll be hearing more about this campaign and our efforts to hold members of Congress across party lines accountable to our values and our communities.
Stay tuned for what’s next,
The team at Common Cause

P.P.S. We’re prepared to hold Democrats and Republicans alike accountable to protecting our values and our lifestyles. But we can’t do it alone – will you support our work to ensure we can keep showing up like this?
