Assalamu'alaykum John,

Muslim Legal Fund of America joins American Muslims across the nation to dedicate today to the importance of justice, equality, freedom, and social responsibility on a day the US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO) has declared "A Day of Hope and Action."

Today's live Virtual Jumu'ah Reflection will be given by MLFA's Outreach Director, Ayman Taleb, at 2 p.m. CDT on Facebook Live, expounding on the principles outlined below:

To be Muslim means to stand morally upright for justice – even if being just means going against our loved ones, our people, or the powerful of society.

To be Muslim means to uphold equality between all human beings – no matter what race, what place they come from, their country, their ethnicity, their parentage. It means to recognize every human being as a child of Adam, a brother, a sister.

To be Muslim means to live and let live in true freedom, the freedom that God has given to every single soul among all human beings – no matter their race, the place they come from, their country, their ethnicity, or their parentage. It means recognizing every human being as a child of Adam, a brother, a sister. It means not raising some above others – making masters of this race, that nation, these people – and slaves, and subjects, and serfs of others.
To be Muslim means to act in society with moral integrity, to assume social responsibility for our fellows in society, to lift them up when they are downtrodden, to house the people living in the street, to enrich them when they are impoverished, to shield them when they are brutalized, to stay their hands when they are the brutalizers.
In faith and for justice,
