Rubio directs State Department to spy on social media activity of immigrant students
"The Trump administration is requiring that foreign students studying in, or seeking to study in the United States, pass an ideological test in order to obtain a visa, according to a 'sensitive' State Department directive issued by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and which I obtained," writes Ken Klippenstein. All of this is being conducted under the guise of rooting out "pro-Hamas" sympathizers, a convenient caricature Rubio, Trump, and other extremists in the GOP willingly slap on anyone daring to speak out against Israel's asymmetrical retaliation against the horrific Hamas October 7 terror attacks that has literally decimated the Gaza Strip and claimed the lives of tens of thousands of innocent civilian Palestinians. We can't believe we have to say this, but Palestine and Hamas are not interchangeable entities. You can stand firmly against Hamas AND support Palestinian human rights. You can believe Israelis should have real security AND fight to hold Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accountable for war crimes at the same time. It's quite simple, really. Why do we say this? Because we believe this in our bones. And the Trump administration's terrifying efforts to abolish free speech on college campuses and beyond, crush any institution that deigns to disagree with its radical ideology, and scare a generation of domestic and international students into conformity and silence are immoral and unconscionable. We must resist.

Mitch McConnell warns of future headline he definitely helped foster and did absolutely nothing to stop: "Russia wins, America loses"
After a DECADE of enabling, placating, empowering, running cover, and rolling over for the autocratic MAGA cult leader, Mitch McConnell is now sounding some kind of alarm that Donald Trump and his advisers "don't seem ready to summon the resources and national will it requires" to deter America's adversaries and laughably warned without a shred of self-awareness that "the outcome we're headed for today is the one we can least afford: a headline that reads, 'Russia wins, America loses.'" Respectfully, Mitch, shut the f*ck up. Donald Trump is the same indecent threat to democracy, western values, and the rule of law today that he was yesterday and every damn day before that, and McConnell, more than any other Republican power player over the past ten years, is to blame for helping cement the wannabe dictator's ironclad grip on the reins of American power. There isn't enough turpentine in the world to scrub that stain from the former Senate majority leader's hands.

Elon Musk drops money bomb on critical state Supreme Court race
State Democracy Defenders: The most important race in the country right now is in Wisconsin where the balance of the Supreme Court (in America's purplest state!) will hinge on one seat that is on the ballot in 20 days. Elon is spending millions to buy the race — and the court and state — for Trump. Click here to fight back and stop Musk and Trump!

Trump asks Supreme Court for permission to resume deporting Venezuelan migrants under wartime law
Quick reminder for anyone who might be led to believe otherwise: we are NOT currently, nor have we actually ever been, "at war" with Venezuelan migrants. The US judicial system has historically been sturdy and robust enough to deal with criminals — even violent gang members — without abandoning due process, pissing all over the Constitution, and decimating our democracy. Let's hope the justices sitting on the Supreme Court feel the same.

GOP senator says Trump likely has buyer's remorse after picking Vance as VP
An unnamed GOP senator told a reporter at Jewish Insider that he suspects Donald Trump may be having second thoughts about tapping JD Vance has his #2 and heir apparent after Vance flatly contradicted and threw shade at the president in deeply embarrassing group chat messages earlier this week. In the now-infamous Signal chat scandal, Vance wrote: "I am not sure the president is aware how inconsistent [the airstrikes are] with his message on Europe right now," committing a cardinal sin in Trumpworld — expressing an opinion at odds with Donald and questioning his elementary understanding of basic facts. Time will tell just how severe the fallout will be from this mess.
Trump administration reportedly eyeing letting taxes rise on richest Americans to pay for other agenda items
Uh, we'll believe it when we see it. Ain't no way in hell Donald's army of mega-wealthy donors and enablers will green light such a move. They are definitely expecting a hefty return on their investment.
JD Vance says US needs control of Greenland to fend off China and Russia
Gee, wonder why the Trump administration had a hard time finding literally any Greenlander interested in being used for nakedly political photo op with JD and his wife Usha.
Tennessee lawmakers want schools to teach the "success sequence" — graduate, get married, have kids
If Republicans have their way, Tennessee public schools may soon be required to teach students that the primary key to success is following a traditional (i.e., conservative) sequence of life events, including definitely getting married and having children — but only in that order — as part of a new bill that passed the GOP-dominated state Senate. Republican state Senator Janice Bowling, a sponsor of the bill, did not miss out on the opportunity to vilify and disparage single parents, stating that children raised in such environments are "three times as likely" to live in poverty and "twice as likely" to end up in jail or prison before the age of 30, completely glossing over, oh, dunno, several dozen other contributing factors that lead to systemic poverty and incarceration. Getting married is great! Having kids, too! IF that's what a free-thinking individual truly wants. But they certainly aren't prerequisites to a happy, successful, fulfilling life, and forcing conservative ideology into public school curriculum is nothing more than blatant indoctrination — a word Republican ideologues love to the throw around when literally anything does not comport with their very narrow world view.
