Hi friend,

I have a lot of updates for you in this edition of the “Patriot Weekly.” This week, we saw a Democrat flip a State Senate seat in Pennsylvania – a seat that Trump won last year by 15 points. This is one example of why, even in the face of so much chaos over the last couple of months, I have hope. We have to keep up the momentum by organizing in our communities and having conversations with our neighbors and friends. By putting in the work, we can replicate this win across the country and send a clear message pushing back against Trump, Elon Musk, and Washington Republicans.

To that end, I wanted to let you know our next Patriot Planning Zoom Call will be on April 7th at 5pm. Thank you to everyone who has joined me for our monthly Zoom sessions. I’ve really enjoyed hearing from folks about their questions and perspectives and I think we’ve been able to discuss meaningful ideas for how to keep the faith and keep up the fight during these dark times. You can sign up here.

In this week’s Patriot Weekly, I want to highlight the good news on how our work advocating for the Hudson Valley paid off, as well as the alarming news of what’s being called “Signalgate” – a national security breach that I personally find infuriating and concerning, in which classified information was shared on a group text that a journalist had accidentally been added to.

What's going on

Hudson Valley

We had a massive win against Elon Musk and DOGE this week: The Poughkeepsie Social Security office was taken OFF the DOGE list, which had listed a closing date for the office. This is a direct response to the community organizing and speaking out. But the fight is not over.

Last week, DOGE announced it is cutting vital phone support, and the mass firings and closures of offices across the country continue.

What I’m doing: I have zero trust in Elon Musk to protect benefits for seniors in the Hudson Valley and across the country, so I am keeping up the heat. I will continue pushing to pass my “Protecting Social Security” bill, which would guarantee these benefits remain protected.

What you can do: Continue speaking out. While this is a win for the Hudson Valley, we must now make sure that the office fully reopens once renovations are complete, and that DOGE doesn’t re-add the office to a closing list once they think they can fly under the radar. If you don’t live in the Hudson Valley, but are concerned about office closures, check this list to see if your member of Congress is a co-sponsor of the Protecting Social Security Act, H.R. 963. If they are, call and thank them; if not, call them and ask them to sign on.

New York

Last month, my friend Dr. Maggie Carpenter was fined more than $100,000 by a judge in Texas for prescribing abortion medication to women who have been affected by Trump’s abortion bans. This week, Taylor Bruck, the acting Ulster County Clerk, refused to file that fine. This is a direct result of the NY Shield Act, which protects doctors like Dr. Carpenter for doing their jobs and prescribing abortion medication to women.

What I’m doing: I’ve led crucial legislation, the Protecting Reproductive Freedom Act, to protect doctors – like Dr. Carpenter – who provides medication abortion via telehealth so that women across America can have access to reproductive health care.

What you can do: The work that Dr. Carpenter does is crucial to protecting all Americans’ rights to abortion freedom. You can click here to learn more about her organization, Abortion Coalition for Telemedicine. Please also consider calling your representative and asking them to sign on to the Protecting Reproductive Freedom Act.

Washington

By now, you have probably seen the news that incredibly sensitive government information was shared over an unsecure text thread with a journalist accidentally added to the group chat. This was an unprecedented leak of classified information that put military lives at risk.

I served two tours in Iraq as an Army Intelligence Officer. If I had done what the Secretary of Defense did, I would be in prison. This is a serious breach of national security that the White House is now actively lying about.

What I’m doing: We cannot let them sweep this under the rug. On Tuesday, I joined a group of fellow Democrats in the House – all of whom are veterans – for a press conference calling for action. In that, I committed to holding a shadow hearing to investigate these actions. If Republicans in Congress refuse to hold this administration accountable, I will do it myself.

What you can do: I was on Morning Joe and Kasie Hunt’s show Friday, and plan on doing additional interviews over the weekend. My ask is this: when Trump tries to distract from this scandal, fight back by elevating these clips on your social media channels. With your help, my thread explaining the issue was my single most successful post, ever. Even take a video yourself if you can, and send it around. We cannot lose focus here, and that means ALL of us keeping up the pressure.

Going on offense

Last week, we held our first town hall of 2025 – and more than 800 people showed up to have their voices heard. While Republicans are actively canceling town halls to avoid having to answer to their constituents for the reckless behavior of the Trump Administration and Elon Musk, I will continue meeting with people across our community – no matter who they voted for – to hear them out and speak to the work I’m doing.

Next week, voters in two Florida districts (FL-01 & FL-06) will have the opportunity to cast their ballots for their next representative, thanks to the retirement of Matt Gaetz and the vacancy left by Mike Waltz (the same Mike Waltz involved in Signalgate) when he became National Security Advisor. By the numbers, both of these districts are solid red, but the special election in the State Senate race in Pennsylvania this week shows that voters are fired up and ready to push back against Republicans. This will be the first time voters have an opportunity to cast their ballots in a federal election, and the results here will set the stages for the midterm elections. All eyes will be on these two districts as the country tries to gauge Trump’s popularity and the impact of DOGE on voters’ decisions. You can support these two candidates by using this link to split a contribution between our campaigns: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/pkr-fl-split

There will no longer be a special election in NY-21 after the Trump Admin pulled Elise Stefanik’s nomination for UN Ambassador because they were too scared of the momentum behind Blake Gendebien’s campaign. But he’s still running for her seat, so we need to keep the momentum alive and well. Blake is a father of three boys, a second-generation dairy farmer, small business owner, and Vice Chair of the Cooperative Board of Agri-Mark. He was born and raised on a farm in the North Country and is deeply rooted in his community. He serves as a JV basketball coach, Lisbon Central School Board Member, and founder of a non-profit supporting kids with pediatric cancer and their families.

I’m supporting him because, though it’s a tough hill to climb, we don’t win when we don’t fight, and I believe our message and values can win anywhere. Please consider contributing to him, through this link which will split your contribution between Blake and myself. Your contributions to me will be used to keep these emails coming and support other candidates across the contribution. Split a contribution between my campaign and Blake today!

If you would prefer to give just to Blake, you can donate here as well: Donate to Blake

Keep the faith, keep up the fight, and thank you for reading!

In Solidarity,

Pat
