The Week in Review
Happy Friday!
I hope you had a wonderful week. I am grateful to serve you all in the 119th Congress. Read below to see what I’ve been working on this week.
President Trump is Working to Cut Wasteful Spending
This week, President Trump announced that he will cut $3 billion dollars in wasteful “emergency” spending, most of which is foreign aid. He has proven that the executive branch is currently the only branch of government willing to cut federal spending. I will continue lobbying my congressional colleagues to do the same, and will stand with him.

Leading the Effort to Protect the Rights of American Gun Owners
As Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Federal Government Surveillance, I sent a letter to Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) Acting Director Kash Patel requesting information on the ATF’s use of facial recognition technology. Recent reports detail concerns that ATF improperly implemented facial recognition technology under the Biden-Harris regime.
My letter requests Acting Director Patel to provide the Subcommittee on Crime and Federal Government Surveillance with documents necessary to conduct congressional oversight.
I will always protect Americans’ right to privacy. It is alarming that ATF may have improperly used facial recognition technology to surveil law-abiding gun owners. My Subcommittee has jurisdiction to oversee ATF, and I look forward to working with Acting Director Patel to investigate these claims and protect Americans’ privacy.
Cosigners of the letter include: Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH).
The full letter may be read here.
Congress Must Defund Planned Parenthood
I spoke at a press conference hosted by Students for Life of America on defunding Planned Parenthood and Big Abortion.

American taxpayers should never be forced to pay for the murder of innocent babies, but that’s exactly what Congress has allowed to happen. In 2022-2023, during the Biden-Harris regime, Planned Parenthood received nearly $700 million in taxpayer funding.
As much as Planned Parenthood claims that it’s more than an abortion provider, the data tells a different story. In 2022, abortions made up 97.1% of Planned Parenthood’s “pregnancy resolution” services. For every ONE adoption referral, Planned Parenthood performs 228 abortions. Planned Parenthood profits off the murder of innocent, unborn children, so why in the world does it still get federal funding?
Thankfully, President Trump announced this week that he will freeze federal funding for Planned Parenthood. President Trump has proven that the executive branch is the only branch of government willing to cut spending, despite my best efforts. Congress controls the purse strings, and we must put the money where our mouth is and codify President Trump’s priorities and the demands of the American people.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Markup
The Oversight Committee held a markup and passed out of committee a series of good government bills, including legislation to streamline government operations and Presidential reorganization efforts, protect hard working American taxpayers, and require the nation’s capital to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement. The legislation includes:
- H.R. 1295, the Reorganizing Government Act of 2025;
- H.R. 1210, the Protecting Taxpayers’ Wallet Act;
- H.R. 2249, the Preserving Presidential Management Authority Act;
- H.R. 2174, the Paycheck Protection Act;
- H.R. 2193, the FEHB Protection Act of 2025;
- H.R. 2277, the Federal Accountability Committee for Transparency (FACT) Act;
- H.R. 2056, the District of Columbia Federal Immigration Compliance Act.
House Judiciary Committee Markup
The Judiciary Committee held a markup and passed my legislation, the Knife Owners Protection Act (KOPA), out of committee. Knife laws at the state level vary widely. For example, some states place restrictions on the type of knife and length of the blade that is legally permissible. Traveling across state lines with a knife can easily result in serious criminal penalties as what is legal in one state may be restricted or illegal in a neighboring state. KOPA will protect the right of law-abiding citizens to transport knives interstate, notwithstanding the burden of patchwork state and local laws. I’m grateful to Chairman Jordan and my colleagues for favorably passing my bill out of committee, and I look forward to passing KOPA out of the House soon. Click the image below to hear more about KOPA:
In addition to KOPA, the Judiciary Committee also passed the following out of committee:
- H.R. 38, the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act;
- H.R. 2184, the Firearm Due Process Protection Act;
- H.R. 2255, the Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act;
- H.R. 2243, the LEOSA Reform Act of 2025;
- H.R. 2267, the NICS Data Reporting Act;
- H.R. 2240, the Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act of 2025.
