Dear Neighbors,

This week in the House Capital Investment Committee, for my second time holding the gavel this year under our power-sharing agreement, I dedicated our time to focusing on proposals to build and preserve more housing in Minnesota [ [link removed] ].

A lot of attention can be given to stadiums and other big-budget projects, but some of the most life-changing work our committee can do is help fund the creation and preservation of homes so more Minnesotans have a place to lay their heads at night.

We invest in so many important community projects, but that doesn’t mean much to our neighbors that don’t have a safe and secure place to call home. Any meaningful Capital Investment bill must prioritize housing.

Protecting Medicaid

*In my last update [ [link removed] ], I shared some resources from the Minnesota Department of Education on how they’re collecting feedback on the potential impact from the Trump administration’s attempt to dismantle the federal Department of Education - and I wanted to let you know about other ways we’re responding to some of the more troubling policies coming out of the White House.

The latest has been Congressional Republicans’ threats to cut Medicaid in order to pay for President Trump’s tax cuts for millionaires. That is not acceptable.

Medicaid is the largest single source of health insurance in Minnesota, serving senior citizens, children, families, and people with disabilities - and our neighbors who rely on Medicaid to live are scared at what they see happening at the federal level.












This week, several of my DFL colleagues put forward their plan to protect Medicaid, the “Protect Medicaid, Not Millionaires [ [link removed] ]” Act. It’s relatively simple, if Republicans are going to cut Medicaid funding to provide a tax cut for millionaires, in Minnesota, we’re going to have those same millionaires pay their fair share until Medicaid is funded to the level our neighbors deserve.

If my Republican colleagues have a better plan to protect Medicaid, I’d love to hear it, but for now it seems like they’re content with pretending like this problem doesn’t exist.
