Democrat,
New Jerseyans have had enough. For months, people have demanded action while Republican Congressmembers refuse to show up, dodge town halls, and hide behind scripted tele-events. The message is clear: if the GOP won’t face their constituents, Democrats will.
This is the moment to step up. Governor Phil Murphy , and our powerhouse lineup of Democratic leaders are coming together to do what Republicans won’t—answer to the people. Congressmembers Frank Pallone, Bonnie Watson Coleman, Donald Norcross, Rob Menendez, LaMonica McIver, Herb Conaway, and Nellie Pou will be there, joined by Women’s Caucus Chair and Essex County Commissioner A’Dorian Murray-Thomas as moderator. We also have special guest DNC Vice Chair and PA State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta joining us.
Together, they’ll break down the real-world consequences of GOP cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, Social Security, public education, school lunches, and more. These policies aren’t just numbers on a budget sheet— they’re direct attacks on working families, students, seniors, and our most vulnerable communities.
Republicans love to scream "America First," yet they refuse to do the most basic job of speaking to the people they represent. While they hide from their own constituents, Democrats are stepping up because leadership means showing up. This town hall isn’t just a discussion, it’s a call to fight back, to demand better, and to rally behind leaders who are listening. The people are watching, and they’re ready to stand with leaders who actually show up.

Trump’s latest executive order is nothing more than a personal vendetta disguised as policy. This time, he’s targeting law firms, specifically Jenner & Block [[link removed]] because one of its former employees was involved in investigating him. By stripping the firm of security clearances, federal contracts, and even access to government buildings, Trump isn’t just punishing a single company, he’s putting people out of work and threatening an entire profession for holding him accountable.
Trump’s message is clear: if you challenge him, he’ll use the full force of the federal government to destroy you. Where is the concern for keeping Americans employed and the economy running when his own grudges are at play

Claim:
Trump and Vice President JD Vance are boasting that egg prices have dropped significantly since they took office, with Trump claiming they are down 35% and Vance stating they are lower than when they took office.
The Truth:
This claim is misleading. While wholesale egg prices—the prices retailers pay to suppliers—have dropped, there is little evidence that consumers are seeing meaningful savings at grocery stores. The most recent data from February shows that retail egg prices actually increased by over 19% from January, reaching an average of $5.90 per dozen. The White House has pointed to wholesale price drops as a major economic success, but even the administration’s own agriculture secretary admitted that grocery store prices could remain high, especially with Easter demand and the ongoing threat of bird flu outbreaks. The reality is that the price drop has more to do with improved supply conditions than any action taken by the Trump administration.
Impact on New Jersey:
New Jersey families aren’t shopping at wholesale markets, they’re buying eggs at grocery stores where prices are still high. While Trump brags about economic wins, his administration’s own officials acknowledge that prices for everyday Americans may not come down anytime soon. If this is their version of “America First,” New Jerseyans deserve better.

Our town hall isn’t the only way New Jersey Democrats are stepping up to hold the line against Trump’s reckless policies. After his executive order directing Education Secretary Linda McMahon to dismantle her own department, an illegal move bypassing Congress, New Jersey’s nine House Democrats took swift action. Led by Rep. Frank Pallone, they penned a letter to McMahon demanding an immediate reversal, citing the devastating consequences for New Jersey’s top-ranked public schools. If Trump’s order stands, it could mean mass layoffs of educators, larger class sizes, and higher property taxes—putting students, families, and local communities at risk.
Meanwhile, while Trump’s allies dodge accountability, Democrats are making themselves accessible to the people they serve. Across the state, Democratic representatives are hosting their own town halls to hear from constituents directly. A common question is, how do we know when our representatives are doing an event? If you want to stay engaged, find your representative and sign up for their newsletter to stay informed on upcoming events. That is the best way to have these notices in your inboxes.

For over 25 years, Saima Bhutta has been a driving force for social justice in South Jersey, transforming challenges into opportunities for meaningful change. In the wake of rising anti-Muslim rhetoric after 9/11, she didn’t just speak out—she took action. Bhutta co-founded the Pakistan American Society of South Jersey, the Muslim Federation of South Jersey, and United We Serve Moorestown, building bridges and strengthening communities along the way.
Her leadership has provided critical support where it was needed most—organizing drives for Afghan refugees, rallying donations for flood victims in Pakistan, holding interfaith meetings, and distributing PPE during the pandemic. And when Moorestown’s town council needed a push to recognize January as Muslim Heritage Month, Bhutta didn’t back down. After two years of relentless advocacy, she made history in 2024.
Saima Bhutta’s work is a testament to the power of persistence, community, and fighting for a more inclusive future!
