John,
This week, we were alerted that ICE agents had arrested Alireza Doroudi, an Iranian doctoral student at the University of Alabama. We are demanding that ICE comply with the law, disclose his whereabouts and clarify if he has been formally charged with any crime. If not he, along with all those who have been unjustly detained in recent weeks, must be immediately released.
This arrest comes on the heels of a concerning trend of unjust detentions, especially targeting individuals exercising their First Amendment rights, creating uncertainty and fear for those who may now face similar treatment. These actions are not only unjust but aim to instill fear and silence activism, particularly within communities who could be targeted by Trump’s harsh immigration actions and those who have spoken out against war and injustice.
In response, we are urgently working to do everything possible for this case and are taking proactive steps to prepare, inform, and mobilize support for other Iranian students and Iranian Americans who may be targeted by this administration, including:
R APID RESPONSE: Mobilizing a coalition of Legal Experts & Attorneys to provide immediate support
E MPOWERING THE COMMUNITY: We are providing public resources including our Travel Ban Center and Know Your Rights Events, such as our upcoming workshop with the ACLU in New York [[link removed]] , so our community is prepared and informed
ADVOCACY: Marshalling direct access and our grassroots network to demand accountability from the administration and Congress and to create public awareness and pressure against these assaults on our rights
We cannot bury our heads in the sand and hope that this moment will pass. We must stand up united for one another and for the future of our rights as Americans. We need your support now more than ever. Please consider making a donation today to help us continue this critical work.
