Rep. Loudermilk Introduces Commonsense Cost-Benefit Analysis Legislation

It's long past time for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) to follow rigorous and transparent cost-benefit analysis in their federal rule making process. That's why I introduced H.R. 2331, the Transparency in CFPB Cost-Benefit Analysis Act. This legislation would enhance rule making requirements for the CFPB. The Transparency in CFPB Cost-Benefit Analysis Act is a common-sense bill requiring regulators to weigh the costs of compliance against the benefits of each regulation. This legislation will help discourage regulatory overreach; and provide significant relief to small businesses and consumers in Georgia and across the nation.

Votes this Week: Legislation to Combat Foreign Influence in American Universities and Reverse Biden-era Regulations to Empower American Consumers and Drive Down Costs

This week, the House voted and passed legislation to root out malicious foreign influences from our colleges and universities. They also voted on legislation using the Congressional Review Act to reverse two burdensome Biden-era regulations that have increased costs and made America less competitive. The top bills are as follows:

  1. H. R. 1048 – Defending Education Transparency and Ending Rogue Regimes Engaging in Nefarious Transactions Act (DETERRENT) Act – Rep. Michael Baumgartner (WA-5)
    • America's foreign adversaries, including China, are using colleges and universities to undermine our national interests, steal American intellectual property, and disseminate propaganda. This legislation brings much-needed transparency, accountability, and clarity to gift reporting requirements for academic institutions to combat foreign influence in our education system.
  2. H.J. Res. 24 – Walk-In Coolers and Freezers Congressional Review Act (CRA) Resolution – Rep. Stephanie Bice (OK-05)
    • This resolution repeals a Biden-era Department of Energy (DOE) rule that imposes energy efficiency standards on walk-in coolers and freezers, which will lead to higher costs for taxpayers.
  3. H.J. Res. 75 – Commercial Refrigerators Congressional Review Act (CRA) Resolution – Rep. Craig Goldman (TX-12)
    • This resolution reverses another Biden-era Department of Energy rule that sets stricter energy efficiency standards for commercial refrigerators, freezers, and refrigerator-freezers, which will lead to higher costs for taxpayers. Specifically, the rule blocks energy consumption limits imposed on various types of commercial refrigeration equipment, including both self-contained and remote models, which will lead to increased costs for businesses and consumers. This bill repeals burdensome red tape and shields small businesses from rising costs.

Rep. Loudermilk in House Financial Services Committee: Reducing Regulatory Burdens is Crucial for Access to Capital

This week, during a House Financial Services Committee hearing, I asked witnesses about the decline in Initial Public Offerings (IPO) over the past decade. Specifically, we discussed the success of the 2012 ‘Jumpstart Our Business Startups’ (JOBS) Act, which tailored regulations to make it more affordable for small companies to access the public markets. I asked whether further extending the 404(b) exemption for emerging growth companies (EGCs) would be safe. We also discussed the IPO process and whether regulation contributes to high underwriting costs for would-be public companies.

Fraud Alert Friday: Identifying Waste, Fraud, and Abuse in the Federal Government

In case you missed it, "Fraud Alert Friday" highlights waste, fraud, and abuse occurring across the federal government.

Alert: This week, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) announced it had terminated 113 contracts valued at $4.7 billion including a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) consulting contract for Peru's climate change activities.

Alert: In another instance, DOGE announced the Department of Labor has cancelled $577 million in "America Last" grants, totaling $237 million in savings.

Updated Alert: Over the past three weeks, DOGE has been cleaning up millions of records in the Social Security Administration's databases by marking number-holders listed as over the age of 120 as being deceased. Approximately, seven million number holders have been removed from the count.

As of March 26, according to DOGE's website, the group has saved American taxpayers $130 billion so far, breaking down to approximately $807.45 saved per taxpayer. To read more about the above alerts, click here, and see DOGE's recent social media post here.

Rep. Loudermilk Co-sponsors Legislation

This week, I co-sponsored several pieces of legislation. These bills are as follows:

  1. H.Res._ – Honoring the life and legacy of Henry Louis Aaron
  • This resolution seeks to honor Hank Aaron, one of the greatest baseball players of all time, who played for the Milwaukee and Atlanta Braves for 21 years.
  1. H.R. 2345 – Ocmulgee Mounds National Park and Preserve Establishment Act
  • Establishes the Ocmulgee Mounds and surrounding areas in Middle Georgia as Georgia's first National Park and Preserve.
  1. H.R. 1369 – President Jimmy Carter Congressional Gold Medal Act
  • Seeks to posthumously award former President Jimmy Carter the Congressional Gold Medal to honor his service to our nation.
  1. H.R. 225 – HUD Transparency Act
  • Mandates the Inspector General (IG) at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) testify annually to Congress. This legislation ensures that Congress maintains oversight into HUD's activities, and the IG's efforts to root out rampant waste, fraud, and abuse within the agency.
