John, I’m often asked, “How can you feel patriotic after what happened in November?”

My answer is simple: I know our country isn’t perfect. But I still believe in it. Flaws and all.

That conviction prevents me from sitting back and allowing someone to take our country in the wrong direction.

Take my grandfather as an example. He was literally chased out of this country by the KKK, but returned to the U.S. because he refused to let hatred dictate his life.

It’s stories like his that motivate me to be a positive force of change.

Right now, it’s our responsibility to show people that we’re the party focused on taking serious, thoughtful action. We have to fight for something better.

That’s patriotism.
