Don't miss today's townhall about Reproductive Justice and the Movement for Black Lives
Friend —
Welcome to Repro Roundup, a monthly update from #VOTEPROCHOICE on the status of reproductive freedom.
We regularly highlight reproductive freedom action alerts, but it's also critical that we emphasize the impact of structural racism and police brutality on our mission for full bodily autonomy.
Institutional racism and targeted legislation against Black communities means that Black patients are more likely to face a forced pregnancy in the absence of accessible reproductive healthcare. Additionally, reproductive freedom cannot be realized until every mother and parent can freely raise their children without the threat of racially-targeted police brutality.
Reproductive freedom requires not only protecting equitable access to healthcare services, but also ending state-sanctioned police violence across the country.
We must be free to govern our own bodies and families.
Here's some good news: Our local champions are leading the way.

Our local elected officials have the power to create the change we want to see.
Endorsed by #VOTEPROCHOICE in 2017, Andrea Jenkins is the first black openly trans woman elected to public office in the United States, and as the Minneapolis City Council Vice President, she is leading the charge to declare racism a public health emergency and to heal her community after the murder of George Floyd.
Watch City Council Vice President Andrea Jenkins sing Amazing Grace to honor George Floyd at a press conference last week. ([link removed])
Coming Up: Georgia's June 9 Primary is essential!
Facing a pandemic, historic unemployment, and militarized police presence, we need champions who will show up for our freedoms at every turn.
We've endorsed dozens of candidates in Georgia, with additional recommendations in every race on the ballot! Please share our #VOTEPROCHOICE Georgia Primary Voter Guide with your family and friends before Tuesday's deadline. ([link removed])

Today is the last day of in-person early voting in Georgia! So whether voting by mask or by mail, ballots must be received by Tuesday.
In the meantime, we cannot forget: Structural racism affects reproductive healthcare every day.
For example, the maternal mortality rate among Black women in Georgia is SIX TIMES the average rate for white women in the United States.

Organizations like our partners at SisterSong and Unite for Reproductive & Gender Equity (URGE) have organized a Reproductive Justice Townhall to discuss issues specifically impacting Black and indigenous people in the reproductive rights space.
Please join today's "Defending Black Bodies" Townhall at 3pm EST to learn how Reproductive Justice connects with the Movement for Black Lives. ([link removed])
