Thank You for Joining Us

 Dear John,

As I hope you are aware, I am running for New Jersey State Assembly, and my Democratic primary election is on June 10.

It might seem strange to share, but a dollar supporting my campaign before March 31st is worth more than a dollar after March 31.

So objectively, yes, $1 donated on March 31 is worth the same as $1 donated on April 1 for purposes of hiring campaign staff or running ads. However, $1 donated on March 31 versus $1 donated on April 1 is not politically equal. In my experience, I would say a $100 donation on March 31 is worth ten times more.

Why? Monday, March 31, I have a “public reporting fundraising deadline.” This means that after March 31, I am required by the State of New Jersey to file a first-quarter fundraising report.

Soon after, my first quarter fundraising numbers will be public, reviewed, and analyzed by journalists who will write articles, my political opponents and supporters to assess my strength, and potential allies who are considering whether to endorse my candidacy.

So, your dollar is really worth more politically to my campaign on March 31st than on April 1st. Of course, we will take donations after April 1, but if you’re considering making a contribution to my campaign, please donate now here, before March 31.

I hope that explains the odd physics of campaign finance!

Please contribute here before the end-of-quarter deadline on March 31.

Thank you for standing with us.

Sincerely,
Ravi Bhalla

Mayor of Hoboken

Candidate for State Assembly LD-32
