We need leaders in Congress who will fight every day for parents and families, but Speaker Johnson and House Republicans are turning their backs on them.

Speaker Johnson and some House Republicans are mounting a desperate, 11th-hour procedural push to prevent a vote on my proxy voting resolution — despite the fact that our (bipartisan!) discharge petition attained the necessary 218 signatures to force a House vote.

My resolution guarantees that when you give birth or welcome a new child, you won’t be forced to choose between your family and your duty to your constituents. The fact that we’re barred from doing our jobs simply because we have children is outrageous. And the people that say this is why women shouldn’t be in Congress? They’re the ones clinging to a system designed to shut us out.

This institution was never built for people like me—it was built by and for wealthy older men, and it shows in every outdated priority in Congress. This is exactly why those in power remain so disconnected from the realities and needs of everyday families. That’s why I’m fighting like hell to change it.

In every community across the country, working families are making tough decisions about where to find safe, affordable child care, how to balance long work hours and family responsibilities, and how to afford the rising costs of housing, groceries, and everyday necessities. Regular families, and especially young women, understand these issues more than anyone. That’s exactly why we need their voices in Congress.

That’s why no matter what tricks Speaker Johnson tries to pull, I won’t stop fighting for working families and young women. Not now, not ever. If that’s a fight you can get behind, I’d be grateful to have your support as I continue the work to make Congress more accessible to women and working families.
