[Your politics and policy brief for March 28, 2025]([link removed])

John-

This week, I detailed a legislative solution to crack down on activist judges threatening to upend President Trump’s agenda to keep America safe. I also continued to advocate for a Congressional select committee to combat the Mexican drug cartels and celebrated the apprehension of a leader of the notorious MS-13 gang.

As always, thank you for your support. Your donations - no matter how small - fuel my campaign. I am gearing up for a tough re-election that will be decided during my primary in March, less than a year away. I know the left is coming for my seat by propping up weak candidates to defeat me in our primary so they can win the general election and flip this seat to Democrats. Without your support, I cannot win. It’s that simple. If you are able to donate to my campaign, I would greatly appreciate your support as I continue to fight for Texas and America:

FIGHTING BACK AGAINST ACTIVIST JUDGES

[THIS BILL WILL END THE POWER OF ACTIVIST JUDGES - FOR GOOD]

[WATCH HERE]([link removed])

Right now, one unelected judge can shut down an entire national policy—immigration enforcement, border security, you name it. They’re using that power to block deportations and stall President Trump’s agenda before it even gets off the ground.

I don’t believe the judicial check was ever meant to be used so prolifically. It’s a necessary check, undoubtedly. There will often be disagreement between the Executive (charged to “execute” the law), and the courts. This is usually the fault of Congress for writing laws that are vague in nature. But that “check” cannot be a single unelected judge, effectively empowered with the same “execution” authority as the President. We must properly balance this important mechanism of checks and balances.

That’s why I support the No Rogue Rulings Act. This bill reins in activist judges by stopping them from issuing broad, nationwide rulings in cases that should only apply to the people directly involved. It restores balance between the courts, Congress, and the executive branch—just like the Constitution intends.

HERE'S WHY WE NEED A SELECT COMMITTEE ON THE CARTELS

[WATCH HERE]([link removed])

Under President Biden, the cartels were making $13 billion a year from human trafficking. Under President Trump the border is more secured and the cartels are losing money—but they aren’t defeated yet.

Now is the time for Congress to act, shut down the cartels for good, and work with our Mexican partners, who for the first time in a long time are willing to act to keep Mexico from becoming a full-blown narco-state.

One of the best ways that we can achieve this at the Congressional level is through a select committee to combat the drug cartels, which I have been advocating for in the House of Representatives. There are a number of committees that have jurisdiction over the Mexican drug cartels in Congress, creating an entanglement of competing priorities and legislative territorial disputes that prevent any legislation from reaching the floor. A select committee will fix this by creating a centralized clearinghouse for legislation specifically related to combating the cartels. It will also give us the resources and staff necessary to really dig into this problem, which we have been unable to do with the cartel task force I currently lead.

I am continuing to advocate for a select committee in Congress, and will do whatever it takes to send legislation to President Trump’s desk to defeat the cartels for good.

MS-13 GANG LEADER ARRESTED IN VIRGINIA

[READ HERE]([link removed])

A tangible result of the Trump Administration’s stance on border security and illegal immigration, when compared to the Biden Administration, is the high profile arrests of some of the most dangerous people on earth living right here in America.

This week, one of the top leaders of the MS-13 gang was arrested in Virginia, just about 40 minutes outside of the nation’s capital. Attorney General Pam Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel, and a force of federal law enforcement agents raided the home on live television in a massive show of strength. It’s important that they do this publicly, as a messaging tool to both Americans who have lived for four years under an open border and illegal immigrants who now understand there’s a new sheriff in town.

Whether this gang leader will be facing U.S. military justice or El Salvador’s version of hard time, the outcome’s the same: misery for a man who earned every second of it.
