Dear John,

A bill that endangers the recovery of Oregon’s wolves has passed the Senate and is moving on to the House. In case you missed our previous emails, the Wolf Depredation Compensation Program Bill (SB 777 -5) would multiply up to 5x the fair market value paid for livestock confirmed killed or injured by wolves, draining the programs funds and jeopardizing wolf recovery.

OLCV and the Oregon Conservation Network (OCN) have labeled this bill a Major Threat, because the high multiplier would stall and endanger the recovery of Oregon’s wolves. Will you donate today to help us stop SB 777-5 [[link removed]]? The bill now moves to the House, so this is a critical moment and we need all hands on deck to stop this unnecessary and dangerous bill.

The 5x multiplier would rapidly drain the program’s funds allocated for compensation for confirmed wolf kills and supplying non-lethal coexistence tools. Meanwhile, it does not address the program’s inefficiency or improve ways to account for increased management burdens and prompt wolf recovery, nor does the bill itself include the necessary funds for providing a multiplier. A 5x multiplier would also give Oregon one of the largest multipliers in the nation.

We need to stop SB 777-5 in its tracks and we need your help to do it. A contribution of any amount helps us build the resources we need to put pressure on our lawmakers to stand up for the issues we care about, like protecting our wildlife. Will you make an urgent donation today to help [[link removed]]?

The recovery of our state’s wolves is dependent on making sure that this Major Threat does not progress. Please consider making a contribution to help us stop this bill [[link removed]].

Thank you for supporting our work and fighting for our climate and environment!

With gratitude,
Eliza Walton (she/they)
