As you read this, Veterans are getting absolutely pummeled.

Our email, texts, and phones are full of fellow Veterans who are at their wits’ end.

Thousands of them have lost their jobs. Veterans who transitioned from a life in uniform to a life in public service have been cut off at the knees. Good people in the National Park Service, the Forest Service, Fish and Wildlife, Health and Human Services, Social Security — jobs critical to their communities and the country.

Thousands of VA staff have lost their jobs, many of them Veterans as well. Again, good people who left the service or passed on better pay in the private sector to serve other Veterans. It’s an insult, and it leaves more Veterans in the lurch.

We’ve heard of caregivers, caseworkers, even people working the Veterans Crisis Line who lost their jobs. And we’ve heard from Veterans who depend on the VA and can’t access services they depend on. Can’t schedule appointments, can’t reach the people they need to, longer waitlists, offices closed. New VA facilities, years in the making, are opening understaffed — not by one or two posts, by hundreds.

It’s a betrayal.

But we’ve been taking action for them. We’ve produced ads and run nationwide campaigns featuring Veterans who lost their jobs. We’ve sent Veterans to offices on Capitol Hill to tell members of Congress directly what they are going through. We’ve run targeted campaigns in battleground Republican districts held by Veterans, calling the GOP out for their inaction to their own constituents.

And we’re investing millions in recruiting and supporting the next generation of Veteran candidates — helping elevate people who lead from the front and still believe in the good our country can do.

Trump’s to blame for all of this, as are the folks supporting and enabling him. VoteVets will make them pay for every step they take. We have never been afraid to pick tough fights, and we aren’t about to stop now.

To support us as we continue this work, make a donation of $5 before the first FEC deadline of the year hits on Monday. What we put away this quarter is going to determine what we can do for the rest of the year, so we need to make a big push now.
