Dear ASBN Community,
The Growing GRASS Project, a key initiative of ASBN and Other-Half Processing that supports regenerative agriculture, farmers, ranchers and Native land restoration projects across the nation, is facing significant disruption due to the USDA’s funding freeze. This five-year $35 million project was set to support regenerative research and small and medium-sized US beef and bison producers — but $20 million in funds are currently frozen.
What’s at Stake
Without funding, critical work is at risk:
$18 million of dedicated support for up to 1,000 producers across the US to participate in regenerative research, value-added markets and grazing educational opportunities.
$2 million in project funding slated for the small- and medium-sized plants that do most of the United States’ regenerative meat processing.

The Growing GRASS team made big plans for 2025. Now, the future of this work is unclear. This project has been a vital part of our work with Native farmers and ranchers, helping restore lands through sustainable practices. Farmers and ranchers across the nation deserve better!
