As I watched the news this week, I couldn’t help but think of the classic film Love and Death. Set in Tsarist Russia, it brilliantly parodies Russian literature. In one memorable scene, the narrator explains, “There was a village idiots’ convention in Minsk. Village idiots from all over Russia were meeting there.” On screen, a building is shown with a large sign that reads: “Welcome Idiots.”

This week, it felt like that sign was hanging on the White House.

Of course, there was the emoji-filled Signal chat set up by the top national security team to plan and track a military strike on Yemen — accidentally including a journalist in the chain. 👊🇺🇸🔥

Then, there was the series of inconsistent and contradictory lies the administration rolled out to explain this insanity, hoping it would blow over. 🙏🙏💪🇺🇸 🇺🇸

And, of course, there was the gratuitous shot at our NATO allies in the banter. Luckily, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth assured them (and us) that “we are currently clean on OPSEC.”

In 2025 we have village idiots gathering on Signal.

But that wasn’t even the worst of it…
