Family — throughout my career in politics, I’ve had one guiding principle: Love.
Love is the reason why, as a first-time candidate running for Newark City Council, I went on a hunger strike to draw attention to the desperation facing the most vulnerable communities in our city.
Love motivated me to run for mayor, and after coming up short the first time, love motivated me to get back up and try again.
Love is what has carried me through days when it feels like the forces of chaos and division keep our nation inescapably focused on destructive acts of hate.
There’s no such thing as too much love. It’s the driving force that keeps folks safe, gives us hope when we have none, and inspires us to create the America we know is possible.
And love is what drives Senate Democrats to fight for affordable housing, to help working Americans keep more of their hard-earned paycheck, to lower the cost of child care and groceries, and so much more.
Elissa Slotkin and I will work with anyone who wants to make life better for folks like you. But if Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and Senate Republicans do things to hurt you — like coming after affordable health care, pursuing policies that drive up costs, and paying for tax cuts for the wealthy by coming after your hard-earned benefits — we will fight.
