Dear John,
We’re at a pivotal moment in our country. Too many Black people have lost their lives due to police violence and systemic racism.
Throughout the week, people have been demanding action to stop the continued loss of Black lives at the hands of murderous police officers. It is time for proper acknowledgement, accountability, and change!
Today is the culmination of the Movement for Black Lives Week of Action calling for systemic reforms. People like you shared your voice earlier this week by signing petitions. Now, we need you to take the next steps.

The problem of systemic racism is enormous. Our leaders and communities must address it. Throughout the Week of Action, each day has represented a specific demand.
- Demand the rights of protestors to be respected. There should be no abuse of power or lethal force on protestors.
- Demand a divestment from the police and investment in Black communities. Resources should be reallocated to healthcare, housing, and education for Black communities.
- Demand immediate relief for Black communities. Economic solutions need to be created to address the immediate crisis Black people are facing while providing a road for recovery.
- Demand community control. Institutions and policies need to serve the people. Allow the most impacted to control the laws.
- Demand an end to the war against black people. Stop killing Black people. Stop criminalization and incarceration! Hold entire police departments accountable, not just officers after they commit murder.
- Demand repair for past and continuing harm. Black communities deserve repair for the harm that police, corporations, and immigrations agents have caused.
- Demand economic justice for all Black people. Black people are continually exploited by the economy. In this time of crisis, we must rethink the economy and make steps towards one that serves the needs of the people and the planet – not large corporations.
As the week comes to a close, it is paramount that you continue to show solidarity and keep using your voice.

The time for action is now. Continue to demand justice. Voices are finally starting to be heard. They must continue roaring throughout America to create the overdue change needed for Black communities. Here are a few ways you can help today:
- Make noise! Let people know you care. Go to your front porch, window, or rooftop and use instruments, pots or pans, or other noise makers to let people know Black Lives Matter!
- Organize a Twitter storm! Keep pushing for change via social media platforms.
- Display a banner or sign in your yard.
- Distribute fliers in your neighborhood.
Together, we can push back against the killing of Black people by law enforcement amidst the backdrop of a pandemic that is afflicting Black lives at an alarming rate.
