Dear John,

‌


It is difficult to understand the challenges veterans face when they’re sent
into harm’s way around the globe if you have never deployed to a war zone.
Similarly, it’s just as difficult to understand the barriers veterans face to
getting the health care they need and deserve if you have never dealt with the
Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

‌


These are just a couple examples of the unique experiences’ veterans endure in
service to our country. As veterans, military families, and communities, those
experiences form invaluable perspectives we can use to deliver solutions to
some of the biggest challenges America faces.

‌


CVA’s Adam Jahnke knows this better than most.

Adam twice deployed to Iraq (where he was awarded the Purple Heart) with the
United States Marine Corps. After hanging up his uniform, he didn’t want to
stop serving his country and his fellow Americans…so he went on to work at the
VA as a social worker.

‌


In reflecting on his work with CVA, Adam says:

“We are not only advocating for the changes needed in the veteran community,
we are also advocating for policies that advance the American Dream for all.”

‌


As a third-generation Marine myself, people like Adam are who I want to be in
the trenches with. Not just fighting for a better American foreign policy or
empowering veterans with more health care choices but fighting to shape a
better future for all Americans.

‌


When leaders in Washington make critical decisions on issues such as health
care and foreign policy, veterans often bear the weight of those decisions.
