Dear John
Earlier today Burma was hit by a major earthquake. It struck near Mandalay in central Burma, and was so powerful the whole country was impacted, as well as neighbouring countries.
Our partner charity Advance Myanmar has launched an appeal to help those in need.
Please donate now to the Advance Myanmar Emergency Earthquake Appeal. ([link removed])
Homes, businesses and infrastructure have been hit. From apartment blocks in cities to bamboo homes in refugee camps, we are getting reports of damage from all over the country.
It could not come at a worse time, with the Burmese military engaged in a brutal war against the population as they resist military rule following the latest coup in 2021. Around 5 million people have already been forced to flee their homes, now thousands more have lost their homes. We don’t know how many have been killed or injured.
The Burmese military impose some of the most severe restrictions on humanitarian aid anywhere in the world. They are also only in full control of around 20 percent of the country.
We can’t have another situation where international aid for a crisis in Burma is blocked or delayed by the Burmese military.
Your donation will enable local community organisations on the ground to directly help those impacted by the earthquake, providing food, shelter, emergency supplies, and helping people to rebuild their homes.
Advance Myanmar will be supporting people in areas where the Burmese military try to block aid, making sure it reaches those in need of help.

As we get more information, we’ll keep you informed.
Thank you for your support
