Kidney Month is a special time for me. As a pediatric kidney specialist, I have devoted my career to helping children heal and recover from some of the most painful medical conditions. And I’ve seen firsthand the powerful role a wish plays in a child’s journey to recovery. Make-A-Wish^® supporters like you make these wishes come true.

When I learned about the opportunity to get involved with my local chapter’s Medical Advisory Council, I knew it was a chance to do even more for my patients and other waiting wish kids.

Now, I get to play a special part in wishes granted. I review the wishes that children choose and ensure it’s safe for them to participate. I even get to routinely refer my own patients for wishes — a true full-circle moment as a physician!

I believe that through each painful treatment and medical challenge, every kid’s goal is to get healthy enough to be able to experience something as transformative as a wish.

At Make-A-Wish, no child is a number. Every wish kid is a person. They have a name and everyone on that team knows that child and comes together to make sure they get their wish.
