17-year-old Huy lived with strabismus, a condition that made his left eye look in a different direction to his right, his whole life. "My friends called me the crossed eye," he recalled. "It did hurt me. At that time, I just wished my eyes were normal like others."
That all changed when our amazing supporters helped launch a project in Hoa Binh, Vietnam, a region where access to eye care is scarce.
Thanks to your incredible support, more than 100 teachers and school health workers were trained to screen students’ eyes, and more than 27,000 students received free eye exams. One of those pupils was Huy, who was diagnosed with strabismus and received free glasses and life-changing surgery.
Today, Huy's eyes are aligned, and his confidence has soared. "I did a video call with my friends, and they told me I look handsome now," he said with a smile.
