Creating change is never easy. But that doesn’t mean we have to abandon our values or dilute our vision.
When I was first elected to the Glendale City Council, I knew that the council was conservative-leaning. Rather than assume progress was hopeless, we got organized and passed an ordinance banning the Glendale Gun Show from being held on public property.
In the Assembly, I championed bold policies to address climate change, increase healthcare access, and fight to protect consumers - even when I knew we'd face stiff resistance from corporate and special interests.
I'm under no illusion about what we’re currently facing in Washington, with the Trump administration and the far-right majority launching attack after attack against everyday people – but that won't change what we're trying to accomplish.
I’m in Congress to create meaningful reform in this country. It's about building a society with clean air to breathe and clean water to drink. It's about freeing our communities from the terror of gun violence. And it's about making sure no one is just a bad hospital visit away from financial ruin.
I refuse to buy into the narrative that those ideas are demanding too much, or that we need to spend these next two years cowering, hoping for these bad agents to go away. We've proven that change is possible, but only if we all come together to make it happen.
