Hi Folks,
My name is Laila Salaam, and I am a member of the Advocates for Youth Muslim Youth Leadership Council and the author of Muslims Do “It” Too, the zine that was included in our Ramadan care packages for this year's #MuslimAnd.
This year, #MuslimAnd is all about being Muslim and here- in this moment when immigrant rights are being stripped and deportations continue, we're here, and we're not going anywhere. We're also here and queer: Muslim queer folks not only exist, but thrive and take pride in all of who we are. This zine is one small part of how we show up in our fullness, faithful, proud, and rooted in resistance.
I was inspired to create this zine after reading The Sex Talk: A Muslim’s Guide to Healthy Sex & Relationships by HEART Women & Girls. As a Muslim advocate for sexual and reproductive health, I believe it’s essential to have open, affirming conversations about these topics through a faith-based lens.
Feel free to download, print, and share this zine. It serves as an introduction to the many ways Islam supports sexual and relational wellness. Whether you’re using it to spark discussions in your community, reflect on your own journey, or share with someone who could benefit from a different perspective, I hope it offers a meaningful and affirming resource.
Also, check out my tutorial on zine folding and more content from this year's #MuslimAnd campaign.
Thank you for engaging with this work—I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Best,
Laila
