Friend, If Donald Trump breaks the law, the courts should be able to stop him. That’s how our democracy works. It’s what the Constitution demands. But now, Trump’s enablers in Congress are trying to change the rules – to protect him, not the rule of law. Next week, the House is expected to vote on a dangerous bill called the No Rogue Rulings Act (NORRA) – legislation that would strip federal courts of the power to effectively block Trump’s illegal actions. This bill is designed to do one thing: prevent federal judges from issuing nationwide injunctions that apply broadly and stop illegal government actions from hurting people across the country. Add your name now to oppose NORRA and defend the power of the courts. >> Right now, if a court finds that Trump is violating the Constitution, it can order the government to stop. That ruling often applies nationwide – especially when the harm is widespread and urgent. Under NORRA, that would no longer be possible. Instead, district courts could only stop the government from breaking the law with regard to the specific people who sued. Everyone else would be out of luck – even if the court agrees their rights are being violated, too. And that’s not an accident. That’s the point. This bill would weaken the power of the judiciary, taking away one of the most important tools we have to block Trump’s unlawful actions. Nationwide injunctions have been used by both progressive and conservative plaintiffs. This isn’t about partisanship – it’s about accountability. It’s about checks and balances. It’s about making sure no one is above the law. Tell the House: don’t let Trump rewrite the rules to escape accountability! >> During Trump’s second term, federal courts have already stepped in several times to stop illegal or unconstitutional actions – doing exactly what checks and balances are supposed to do: Anti-Birthright Citizenship Order Blocked – In January 2025, Trump tried to end birthright citizenship with an executive order. Federal courts quickly blocked it, saying it likely violated the 14th Amendment. Transgender Military Ban Stopped – Trump moved to ban transgender people from serving in the military. A federal judge halted the ban in March 2025. Mass Deportations Under Centuries-Old Law Blocked – The Trump administration used a centuries-old law to try and deport Venezuelan immigrants without due process. A federal court ordered further deportations halted. Federal Worker Firings Reversed – Trump tried to fire thousands of federal workers without following legal procedures. Courts ordered their reinstatement while litigation continues. These court rulings protected real people from real harm. And under NORRA, many of them wouldn’t have happened – or wouldn’t have applied to anyone beyond the handful of plaintiffs involved in these cases. NORRA would even apply to emergency injunctions – those issued at the very start of a case, when people across the country are at risk of immediate, irreversible harm. That’s outrageous. And while there’s a small carve-out for cases brought by multiple states or formal class-action suits, those are rare and slow-moving. In the meantime, people will suffer. This is a full-scale assault on judicial oversight. And it’s being rushed to a vote next week. We must act now. Add your name to oppose the No Rogue Rulings Act before the House vote. >> Thank you for your advocacy on this incredibly important issue. – People For the American Way
