The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation proposes changes to the rules at 16 TAC, Chapter 73, Electricians.
*What are the proposed rule changes?*
The proposed rule changes:
* Reduce the number of credits, from four to three, that an electrical career and technical education (CTE) program must require students to earn in a practicum.
* A practicum is an educational course through which a student obtains academic credit for performing work outside of a school setting. Under 16 T.A.C. §73.110(b)(4), schools offering CTE programs must require students to obtain practicum credit by working outside of the classroom under the supervision of a licensed master electrician.
* This change is necessary to address concerns raised by public high schools that student schedules could accommodate three practicum credits, but not four.
