Rumeysa Ozturk was kidnapped and is being detained by ICE. |
Yesterday, my constituent Rumeysa Ozturk was kidnapped in plain sight by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials and sent to Louisiana to be locked in a detention center. She has not been charged for any crime.
She was on the phone when an officer in plainclothes walked up to her and grabbed her by the wrist. Another man took her phone away. Then, five officers surrounded her and handcuffed her. All of them had their faces covered.
This is unacceptable and she must be immediately released.
Rumeysa is a peaceful protestor, a graduate student at Tufts University passionate about education, and my constituent who has a right to both free speech and due process. She was on her way to break her Ramadan fast and I can only imagine how hungry she must have been when she was arrested.
Now she's a political prisoner. We must demand her freedom.
