Friend,
At a time when the president is calling for deploying the U.S. military against protestors, it is incumbent on every ally and group to speak up and take action for racial justice.
Evergreen Action stands in solidarity with those across the country protesting and demanding justice for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Ahmaud Arbery, and others who have lost their lives to violent acts of systemic racism, including police violence.
These deaths were an avoidable tragedy. The ongoing disproportionate rate of COVID-19 death in Black communities is an avoidable tragedy.
We must be clear: Continuing to invest in broken systems that enable police brutality is a choice. Tear gassing protestors during a pandemic is a choice. Allowing fossil fuel corporations to poison Black and brown neighborhoods, causing and inflaming diseases, is a choice.
Each of these assaults on the lives of people and the functioning of our democracy are products of structural racism and the result of intentional policy choices.
At the core of our work is the idea that climate justice is racial justice. We believe that confronting a system of economic exclusion and environmental racism must be at the core of any climate plan for America. This movement for environmental justice must be driven by a bottom-up approach that puts the voices and lived experiences of frontline communities at the center of building a clean and just economy.
We must reject the systemic racism that is intrinsic in our fossil fuel economy and in the unequal devastation of the climate crisis. And when we do, we cannot simply rebuild a greener version of the status quo.
America must choose to build something better, more just, that values Black life.
And you can help build it right now. Make a donation today and help fund groups that are at the forefront of the fight against racism and police brutality.
Thank you for committing to a more just future,
Team Evergreen
