Josh gave his first State of the State address at the General Assembly!
Here he is at his final rehearsal 👇

Josh was proud to report that North Carolina is strong because our people are strong. He highlighted ongoing efforts to rebuild western North Carolina but emphasized the need for the legislature to pass a Hurricane Helene recovery bill to ensure our communities get the resources they need.
Josh also laid out details of his economic agenda — from increasing investments in apprenticeships and child care to raising teacher pay — and took the opportunity to reaffirm his commitment to defending Medicaid against federal cuts, so that every North Carolinian has access to the care they deserve.

Delivering Hurricane Helene relief
It’s the first bill Josh signed into law 👇

We’re grateful that the General Assembly worked with our administration to send more than $500 million to western North Carolina communities to help continue Hurricane Helene recovery. It includes funding for housing, farmers who lost crops, infrastructure repair, and small business grants.
This bill also provides over $200 million to hurricane victims in the eastern part of the state who still need our support.
This is the first Helene recovery bill of the year, and Josh wants you to know it won’t be the last. He’s committed to doing whatever it takes to make sure our communities can rebuild strong.
Defending Medicaid
“As Governor of North Carolina, I am deeply concerned about the cuts to Medicaid funding being considered at the federal level. Medicaid is a lifeline for more than 3 million North Carolinians, including many of our most vulnerable people — children, seniors, individuals with disabilities, and those living in rural communities. Any reductions in Medicaid funding would jeopardize access to critical health care for these groups, putting at risk their well-being and the stability of our health care system.” — Gov. Josh Stein
Amidst Republican threats to Medicaid funding at the federal level, Josh has made it clear that any cuts will harm the millions of North Carolinians who rely on Medicaid for care.
He wrote to congressional leaders in Washington to urge them to refrain from slashing Medicaid funding and harming our state — you can read his full letter here. [[link removed]]

Josh is honored to help lead this bipartisan group of governors who will work closely with federal partners to help solve critical problems facing communities in North Carolina and across the country, strengthen our national security, address natural disasters, and more.
FEMA Disaster Assistance Deadline EXTENDED to April 7th
FEMA granted Josh’s request for a 30 day extension for North Carolinians to apply to the individual assistance program. You can read his statement here:
“Thank you to FEMA and the Trump Administration for granting North Carolina’s request to extend the individual assistance program and to our Congressional delegation for its support. This is a positive step forward, and I urge affected residents from western North Carolina to apply for FEMA funding to help them get back on their feet.
We continue to seek adequate funding from Congress and the General Assembly for the ongoing recovery efforts. The people of western North Carolina need more federal support to build back stronger.” — Gov. Josh Stein
If you live in western North Carolina and have suffered uninsured losses from Hurricane Helene, you may be eligible to apply.

Josh is committed to making high-quality child care affordable and accessible across North Carolina, to support families and our workforce while setting children up for success in the future. His task force brings together child care providers, parents, legislators, business leaders, and experts to help ensure families can afford child care and address the shortage of child care workers.
Supporting communities hit by Helene
Josh visited Burnsville, in Yancey County. He joined Sheriff Shane Hilliard, whose family members lost homes in the flood 👇

Our communities have Josh’s full support as western North Carolina continues to rebuild. He remains grateful to the first responders and community leaders whose work is so critical at times of disaster and will advocate for Congress and the General Assembly to get resources to those who need them.
