Dear John,

We are excited to share our newest, groundbreaking report: A Matter of Survival: Meeting Unmet Needs and Building Power In Times of Crisis ([link removed]) by Shailly Gupta Barnes and Jarvis Benson. Last Thursday, organizers, policy experts, social justice leaders from all over the nation joined us for the release of the report and to discuss the plight, fight, and insight coming from the survival strategies of impoverished communities at this time of increased inequality, democratic decline and climate and constitutional crisis.

Within the everyday actions of millions of poor people, lies the hope for a new society to be born. With the right kind of attention and political direction, these survival strategies can provide the foundation of a broad-based social justice movement. Below are some highlights from the report launch.

From the view of the unhoused, the excluded and the left out; those who have been devalued, dispossessed, and violated by the systems and structures of our world, but who refuse to allow this system to have the final word and continue in a commitment to fight for the world God intended, a world of abundance where all thrive.

** A Prayer for Love, Renewal, and Justice

** by Shailly Gupta Barnes

Earlier this month, millions of people around the world celebrated Holi, the Hindu rite of Spring. Holi commemorates both the changing seasons and the struggle for love and justice in dark times. One of its origin stories involves the adolescent love of Krishna and Radha, and the joyful affirmation of love beyond boundaries, beyond norms, beyond fear. Read more about Holi below, including a Holi prayer for love, justice, and renewal.

** USA Today: I'm an Army veteran. Trump's attempts to erase our history at Arlington sicken me.

Bear witness to the powerful words of Jose Vasquez, Executive Director of Common Defense, the largest grassroots membership organization of progressive veterans and a key partner with the Kairos Center. “The erasure of Medgar Evers – a World War II veteran and civil rights hero – from the Arlington National Cemetery website is not just an affront to his legacy but a blatant attempt to rewrite history.” -
