John,
The Trump administration wants to remove immigrants’ last line of defense: immigration attorneys.
In a memo, the administration lays out its plans to order new sanctions based on phony “oversight” of immigration attorneys, making it nearly impossible for them to do their jobs. Putting it simply—Trump has locked the doors to the courts and is punishing anyone who dares to enter.
Research shows that win rates go up by 60% if immigrants have a lawyer by their side. But very few can get attorneys. By further restricting access to counsel, the administration is working to achieve its ultimate goal of deporting as many people as possible and denying due process.
The American Immigration Council isn’t giving up in the face of this memo. In fact, we’re well prepared for it. For years, our Immigration Justice Campaign has been training a dedicated group of volunteer attorneys to take on immigration and asylum cases.
This makes us uniquely qualified to stand up and fight during this moment, especially while others cannot. Will you stand with us to ensure immigrants can still have an attorney by their side?
Your gift will help:
-
Train attorneys to take on cases in immigration court.
-
Support travel for lawyers volunteering to defend immigrants in remote detention sites.
-
Ensure vulnerable individuals have access to life-saving legal help.
Let’s show the Trump administration that it can’t bully us into submission.
Thank you for your sustained partnership. Support from individuals like you helps to broaden our reach and deepen our impact.
Sincerely,
Bekah Wolf
Director of the Immigration Justice Campaign
