Dear Neighbor,

I wanted to take a moment to share an update about how my staff and I have been working for the people of Maryland's Eighth District. It remains a great and singular honor to serve as your Representative in Congress.

We, Democrats, are keeping up the fight. I was proud to vote against House Republicans’ budget resolution which put Medicaid, federal workers’ benefits, SNAP and other critical programs that millions of Americans, including many Marylanders, rely on at risk.

Additionally, I want to remind you of the resources my team and I have put together to assist constituents during this time, starting with this webpage dedicated to sharing information for Marylanders affected by the Trump-Vance policy agenda. Included are three webinars convening experts to assist federal workers, immigrant families and the LGBTQIA+ community.

As always, I encourage all of my constituents across the Eighth District to connect with me on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Twitter/X and Bluesky. If you need help with a federal agency and want to request my assistance, please complete the online request form here, and my District Office team will be in touch.

All Best,

Sharing Resource Webinars for Constituents

In February, my team and I convened experts and advocates across our community for a series of webinars dedicated to helping people targeted by the Trump-Vance Administration policy agenda.
Each episode of the four-part webinar series focuses on a separate topic, providing information and resources for:

Additionally, we published a resource page to support all Marylanders affected by Trump Administration policies. Please do not hesitate to contact my team with any questions and concerns.

Standing Up for the Federal Workforce

President Trump started his term with policies attacking the federal workforce, firing air traffic controllers at the FAA, food inspectors at the FDA, cancer researchers at the NIH and other patriotic and loyal public servants.

I have and will continue to do all I can to stand with our federal workers and contractors. My staff and I have published resources for civil servants navigating this tumultuous time. I am doing everything I can to protect federal workers—including the more than 50,000 who call our district home.

Defending Key Federal Government Services

Over the last few months, I’ve met with constituents in MD-08 in defense of federal government services that our people rely on. I spoke with civil servants outside USAID, NIH, NOAA, Treasury and other agencies who deserve fair treatment as they deliver the government services that Americans have voted for and depend on.

Democrats are committed to going everywhere our institutions and our democracy are under attack.

Elon Musk and DOGE have instituted policies targeting critical government services, creating chaos rather than efficiency, and was forced to quickly walk back the firing of civil servants who are fighting the avian flu and rewind the sacking of IRS employees in the midst of tax season.

Protecting NOAA from Political Attacks

Speaking with constituents at NOAA’s Silver Spring headquarters

Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and I recently led the Maryland Democratic congressional delegation in a letter to U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) Secretary-Designate Howard Lutnick and Acting DOC Secretary Jeremy Pelter to implore them to defend the independence, integrity and existence of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) against unconstitutional attacks by Elon Musk and his DOGE associates.

Musk and DOGE are unvetted, unconfirmed and unelected and have no mandate to disassemble the critical functions of NOAA. The agency’s weather forecasting, seafood regulations, marine life protections and other services help all Americans plan our daily activities and stay safe.

Launching House Democrats’ New Rapid Response Task Force and Litigation Working Group

Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries recently named me Co-Chair of a new Rapid Response Task Force and Litigation Working Group—which means I’ll lead House Democrats’ efforts to challenge the Trump-Vance Administration’s unconstitutional executive actions in court.

In this capacity, I have been working alongside House Democratic leadership to update our caucus on the litigation that we are assisting to stop the Trump-Vance policy agenda in its tracks and coordinate a dynamic and aggressive response.

Recognizing the Local Heroes of the Eighth District

For the first time since the inception of my Local Hero series, I dedicated the program last month to sharing resources for constituents through the webinars above.

Beyond those segments, I was delighted to recognize MaryBeth Hastings as a Local Hero in February. MaryBeth is one of the countless Marylanders and Americans who has devoted her career to human rights and has seen her livelihood and work upended by Trump and Musk’s policies that attack USAID. Thank you, MaryBeth, for showing us that foreign aid is critical for democratic solidarity and national security.
