Puget Sound Partnership’s New Website to Aid Chinook Salmon Recovery
*FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*
March 3, 2025
The Puget Sound Partnership is proud to announce the official launch of the *Puget Sound Salmon Recovery Hub* [ [link removed] ], an innovative, interactive online platform designed to centralize and share vital information about Chinook salmon recovery efforts in the Puget Sound region. The Salmon Recovery Hub will serve as the central resource for tracking progress toward achieving the 2050 recovery goals for Chinook populations, ultimately helping to restore and protect this critical species.
The Puget Sound region is working toward an ambitious target for 2050: to make sure all Chinook salmon populations are on the rise, with at least 50 percent of populations meeting their recovery goals. Achieving this target is essential for the health of the region’s ecosystem, supporting the communities and wildlife that depend on Chinook salmon.
The *2024 Puget Sound Salmon Recovery Plan Addendum*—a comprehensive, decade-long strategy for salmon recovery—will be the guiding document for future actions. The Salmon Recovery Hub is designed to bring this plan to life by providing a single platform for our partners to track, engage with, and contribute to ongoing recovery efforts.
*Key Features of the Salmon Recovery Hub include:*
* *Progress Reports & Maps*: Track recovery efforts with up-to-date information on the status of Chinook salmon populations and recovery projects throughout the Puget Sound Watershed.
* *Salmon Recovery Story*: Learn about the history and ongoing challenges of Chinook salmon recovery in Puget Sound.
* *Interactive Addendum*: View an online, interactive version of the Salmon Recovery Plan Addendum to understand the goals, actions, and timeline for the next decade.
"We are thrilled to introduce the Salmon Recovery Hub as a one-stop resource for anyone interested in the future of Chinook salmon in Puget Sound," said Melissa Speeg, salmon recovery manager at the Puget Sound Partnership. "This platform is more than just a collection of data; it’s a tool for collaboration, transparency, and progress. The Hub will be a vital resource for decision-makers, agencies, tribes, organizations, and the public as we work toward our 2050 recovery goals."
One of the main objectives of the Salmon Recovery Hub is to bring together various resources from across the region, including federal, state, tribal, and local agencies, to share information and increase communication around Chinook recovery efforts. By bringing this data together in one place, the Hub will make it easier for our partners, including legislators, to stay informed about progress, identify areas where work is needed, and support necessary actions.
Looking ahead, the Salmon Recovery Hub will continue to evolve. Future updates will include the ability to track actions outlined in the recovery plan, feature more detailed maps of recovery projects, and offer individual pages for each lead entity in the region, helping to paint a more complete picture of local and regional efforts.
As more features are added, the Salmon Recovery Hub will be a vital tool in ensuring transparency and driving continued action toward the recovery of Chinook salmon populations in Puget Sound.
