NJN Opposes Huckabee Confirmation

March 25, 2025- Today, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee held a hearing to consider former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee’s nomination to serve as America’s next ambassador to Israel.

Governor Huckabee has an extensive record of alarming statements and views related to Israel and Palestine, including his staunch criticism of ceasefire talks, saying that “there’s no valid reason to have a cease-fire with Hamas” and that a ceasefire should not even be entertained until after the hostages are released. He has repeatedly denied national Palestinian identity –  claiming that there “isn’t such a thing” as Palestinians, and arguing that Israel’s rule over the West Bank and Gaza is not an “occupation.” Governor Huckabee has also actively participated in actions that undermine US diplomatic credibility, including laying bricks to build settlements.

Settlers Occupied a Palestinian House in Hebron

Settlers entered the home of a Palestinian family in Tel Rumeida in Hebron late afternoon today (March 23, 2025) and established a new settlement there. According to reports, the family members went out for an Iftar meal, but when they returned, they discovered that settlers had entered their home and the army prevented them from approaching the house. The police refused to take a complaint from them and referred them to the Coordination and Liaison Headquarters. The settlers claim that they purchased the house, but as mentioned, the Palestinian family denies this and called the police (who refused to come).
