John, we were amazed to have 1,250+ people RSVP for the National Immigrant Justice Center’s (NIJC) Human Rights Awards this past Tuesday. Supporters, sponsors, and the JB and MK Pritzker Family Foundation who gave a matching gift, all came together to contribute more than $950,000 to provide life-saving legal services to immigrants and asylum seekers!

The past weeks have reminded us that there is so much more work to do in the fight for justice and the Human Rights Awards left us energized and inspired to continue powering on every day.

You can watch a recording of the 21st Annual Human Rights Awards livestream here.

We are still thinking about the words of our keynote speaker Aarti Shahani, “One of my biggest lessons: Justice is not swift. If you want justice, you have to cultivate patience." And the wisdom of the legendary Dolores Huerta, “The present moment has revealed the interconnectedness of everyone and our reliance on each other.”

Watch the event and then share it with others!

A huge thanks to the hundreds of people who donated during the Human Rights Awards. If you didn’t get a chance to donate, there’s still time. And there’s still so much more work to do. Your donation to NIJC keeps a family together, protects an asylum seeker, and creates systemic change to make our immigration laws and policies more humane. You can donate here.

NIJC remains committed to protecting human rights and providing access to justice for all, especially as our country grapples with the legacy of systemic racism alongside a global pandemic that disproportionately affects people of color. We are proud to fight for justice for all with you.

Thank you,

Mayon Yen
Associate Director of Resource Development, NIJC
