Fellow activist, we have urgent news.
This week, Trump signed an executive order that could disenfranchise millions of voters. Similar to the SAVE Act, this executive action includes requiring that voters provide proof of citizenship in order to register to vote – even though only half of Americans have a U.S. Passport and only five states offer driver’s licenses that show proof of citizenship. According to NPR, it also seeks to stop states from counting mail or absentee ballots received after Election Day, even if postmarked prior.
As a voting rights organization, we are vehemently opposed to any additional barriers that would make it more difficult to register to vote and to make our voices heard at the ballot box.
This executive order disproportionately harms working people, young voters, new Americans, anyone who has changed their name, such as married women, and Black and brown communities. Join us in raising awareness and taking a stand against this attempt to strip away our rights by chipping in $25 or whatever you can today →
The Trump regime has proven that it is willing to suppress all of our voting rights. Trump is attempting to rewrite the rules to block us from voting because they know that when we all participate, we elect leaders who work for us, not just the rich and powerful.
The government already has the information it needs to determine who is eligible to vote. This order is an attempt to enact a 21st-century poll tax and allow Elon Musk to comb through our voter files and access our private information. This order attempts to strip that fundamental right from more than 21 million eligible Americans who can’t produce, don’t have, can’t afford, or struggle to access the required documents.
We are not going to stand for this attempt to dismantle our democracy. Help us fight back to protect the freedom to vote by rushing $25 or more today → |
