Dear Law Center supporters,

In times of heightened uncertainty, a home provides a sense of stability. For unhoused youth and young adults, security and protection can feel impossible to achieve. The National Homelessness Law Center’s Youth Homelessness Team fights for a future where all young people thrive in the safety of caring communities, with the power to shape their own lives.

Recent efforts from the Trump Administration to freeze funding for service providers, cut social safety net programs, and slash technical assistance staff would have unfathomable consequences for the over 38,000 unaccompanied, unhoused youth and young adults,[[link removed]] the 165,000 youth who are homeless with their families[[link removed]], and the 1.4 million homeless
students[[link removed]] in the US. The Law Center is prepared to bring cases challenging such actions and stand behind these incredible service providers.

Additionally, Trump’s ordered dismantling of the Department of Education will endanger the rights of unhoused youth to access their education. Without federal funding and supports, youth and young adults experiencing homelessness, youth in low-income schools, and those involved in the child welfare system will struggle with basic school access and face even greater hurdles to enrolling, attending, and succeeding in school, including access to higher education.

The National Homelessness Law Center is not backing down. We remain committed to protecting the rights of our unhoused neighbors and fighting to ensure that everybody has the housing they need to thrive.

The Fight Back Fund[[link removed]] will support the Law Center’s legal and policy response to federal, state, and local efforts to punish people who have no choice but to sleep outside. By collectively pooling our resources, your donation of any amount will support the crucial efforts needed to scale up our work to meet the moment including:
Maintaining the Youth Homelessness Index[[link removed]] which tracks the legal, systemic, and environmental barriers youth experiencing homelessness face and helps advocates, policymakers, and youth implement and enforce promising policies and practices toward ending youth homelessness.
Providing Technical Assistance and Litigation Support related to the rights of unhoused youth in school, shelter, and housing programs.
Expanding Access to Mental Health Care for Unhoused Youth and Young Adults[[link removed]] by helping advocates remove unnecessary barriers, improve access to, and empower youth to know their rights.
Providing Legal Support[[link removed]] to Youth Action Boards and other lived experience consultants, who are working to shift power and center the voices of unhoused youth in programs, systems, and services.
