Join us at this year's International Journalism Festival
The upcoming annual International Journalism Festival hosted in Perugia, Italy, brings together an impressive line up of journalists, media professionals and experts from across the globe to discuss key issues facing the news industry.
At this year's festival, we will be exploring the role of the media in an era of rising authoritarianism, and examining how these regimes are weaponising foreign agent laws to stifle independent reporting.
Our CEO, Antonio Zappulla, will be hosting two panels:
📆 "Silencing the press: the global spread of foreign agent laws and their impact on journalism" - Friday 11th April, 3-3:50pm CEST
📆 "Enemy of the people? The role of the media in an era of rising authoritarianism" - Saturday 12th April, 11:30am-12:20pm CEST

We will also explore the barriers to AI uptake in Global Majority newsrooms in the panel: 📆 "Closing the AI adoption gap" - Friday 11th April, 4-4:50pm CEST.
This panel is sponsored by Microsoft, who are providing funding for us to deliver a unique programme helping four newsrooms in South Africa harness the benefits of AI across newsgathering and business practices.
Our Head of Media Initiatives, Heba Kandil, will be joined by programme participants Susan Comrie (amaBhungane Centre for Investigative Journalism) and Luke Feltham (Mail & Guardian), who will be sharing the first steps of their AI adoption journey.

Promoting Responsible Business
Since taking office in January, President Trump's AI policies have signalled a shift away from the Biden administration's focus on safeguarding risk and preventing bias. However, experts state that AI safety frameworks could become a competitive edge for products in the future.
The next webinar in our series for companies interested in benchmarking their use of AI - From Principles to Practice: A Roadmap for Ethical AI adoption - will be hosted on Tuesday, 22 April at 3pm BST.
This session will show how participation in our AI governance survey can help organisations mitigate risks and demonstrate their commitment to transparency.
Strengthening Independent Media
Every year, Africa is estimated to lose approximately 88.6 billion USD to illicit financial flows, which equates to 3.7% of the continent’s GDP.
We are looking for journalists based in Africa to participate in our upcoming 'Reporting on Illicit Financial Flows' training.
If selected, you will take part in an intensive workshop covering illicit finance and investigative techniques, and gain exclusive access to expertise through our network of illicit finance experts.
Enabling Access to the Law
Transparency in the public sector plays a key role in securing public trust.
Our new study - facilitated by our global pro bono network, TrustLaw - assesses the current regulatory framework for the acquisition, implementation, and development of emerging technologies in Latin America.
It also provides a series of recommendations to bolster transparency in the state sector.
