Aloha Hawaii Republicans,
I hope this message finds you filled with renewed enthusiasm and steadfast dedication to our mission of building a stronger, more vibrant Hawaii through conservative principles and active civic engagement.
First, I would like to extend my gratitude to Representative Gene Ward for his service, dedication, and tireless commitment as Republican House Representative for District 18. Representative Ward has been a leader, advocating for his community, standing firmly on their values, and consistently prioritizing the needs and concerns of his district. We are grateful for the significant contributions he has made.
As we look forward, we are now accepting submissions from interested individuals who would like to be considered to fill the vacancy created by Representative Ward’s departure. A panel of five, which will include the voices and perspectives from District 18, as part of the panel who will carefully evaluate each submission. Ultimately, three names will be selected to be forwarded to Governor Josh Green for consideration.
If you are interested in being considered for this critical role, please submit your information, including your expression of interest, reasons for consideration, political history, a personal write-up about yourself, and your contributions to the community, to
[email protected]. We eagerly await your submissions and look forward to engaging with passionate community leaders who are ready to step forward and serve. District 18 will hold an initial gather to nominate panel members from District 18 to be part of the final panel of 5. Republican Members of District 18 are encouraged to gather on April 6th at 2pm at Hahaione Elementary School. Please feel free to contact the regional Vice Chair of District 18, Nolan Chang, for additional information at
[email protected]
Additionally, please mark your calendars and save the dates of May 24th and 25th for our upcoming Hawaii Republican Party State Convention. (see info here). We are excited to announce that we have special guests joining us this year to inspire, motivate, and ensure a truly pleasant and successful convention. It will be a wonderful opportunity to connect, learn, and strengthen our resolve for the critical work ahead. We are excited to have Al Gage, RNC parliamentarian and Author, as well as Texas National Committeeman Dr. Robin Armstrong, who will inspire us spiritually, politically, and speak to our health.
Let us continue to unite, inspire each other, and work tirelessly together to build a thriving and principled future for our great state.
With warmest regards,
Tamara McKay
Chair, Hawaii Republican Party

On Tuesday, April 1st, the Senate Committee on Commerce and Consumer Protection and the Committee on Judiciary will hold a decision making hearing on House Bill 125 that imposes additional firearm storage requirements. Please consider submitting testimony OPPOSING HB 125 through the capitol.hawaii.gov ([link removed]) website. For help creating an account and submitting testimony, watch this video (here ([link removed]) ).
HB125 is a safe storage law, makes it a crime if the state thinks you didn't store your weapon properly and someone accesses it. You get held liable for up to 2 years if someone does something bad with your gun. POLICE ARE EXEMPT, which is kind of odd considering how often they've been 'losing' guns lately.
House Bill 125 expands upon Hawaii’s existing firearm storage mandate by requiring firearms to be stored in a locked box, safe or with a trigger locking mechanism, with limited exceptions. Any violation would be subject to fines and possible criminal charges, HB 125 would also hold the firearm owner strictly liable for third-parties misuse of a firearm that was not stored in compliance with the provisions of the legislation.
We defeated most of the bad stuff this year but an infringement is still an infringement.
