Donald Trump knows that the people of this country do not want our
tax dollars being used to fund the massacre of innocent people in
Gaza. That's why he's carrying out the most severe crackdown on free
speech on college campuses since the era of McCarthyism. This is an
inflection point -- we cannot allow Trump's campaign of repression
intimidate us into staying home. Now is the time to loudly and boldly
express our solidarity with the Palestinian people and demanding an
end to the genocide!
The case of Columbia University student activist Mahmoud Khalil has
caused outrage across the country and around the world. And so many
other students have been targeted as well. Just today, news broke that
ICE arrested a PhD student at Tufts University, Rumeysa Ozturk, simply
because she wrote an op-ed for the student newspaper supporting
divestment from Israel. Every day there are new instances of students
being harassed, disciplined, expelled, or arrested just because they
exercised their free speech rights to oppose genocide.
People are fighting back in the streets and in the courts.
Yesterday, Columbia University student Yunseo Chung won an important
legal victory when a judge ruled that should could not be detained by
ICE while a legal process challenging her deportation plays out.
Trump wants to criminalize any opposition to his administration's
unjust policies. The pro-Palestine movement is the first big target,
but next they will come for defenders of the environment, immigrant
rights activists, and union organizers. Everyone who believes in free
speech needs to be in Washington, D.C. on April 5 to show Trump that
we are not afraid!
A broad coalition has come together for this pivotal action.
Initial sponsors include the Palestinian Youth Movement, The People's
Forum, the ANSWER Coalition, American Muslims for Palestine,
Democratic Socialists of America, Jewish Voice for Peace, U.S.
Palestinian Community Network, U.S. Council of Muslim Organizations,
U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights, Palestinian Feminist Collective,
AROC Action, and Al-Awda, and many more are joining.
Please make an urgently needed donation today to help
make this demonstration and dozens of buses from across the country
possible.
