Dear Neighbors,

Happy Spring! I hope this email finds you well and enjoying more light with each day. With a newly elected Democrat in the Roseville-area seat, the Minnesota House of Representatives is finally back to a functional 67-67 tie. The power-sharing arrangement, which my DFL colleagues and I fought for is now taking effect; had we not made the difficult decision to deny quorum early on, the House GOP would still control the chamber, and for two years, instead of the few weeks they had a temporary majority. Committees now have equal GOP and DFL membership, and gavels are alternating between co-chairs.

I’ve been introducing bills in the House Chamber and presenting legislation to their respective committee. From plant-based meals for our kids to boosting mental health resources in our vibrant communities, I'm working to help meet needs for our residents. Last week, I presented my first bill [ [link removed] ] to the House Human Services Committee. The legislation supports our cherished seniors with increased investment in the Senior LinkAge Line, a key resource providing free help to older adults needing support remaining in or returning to their home. As a former caregiver to my grandmother, this is a personal issue for me, and you can watch my remarks in committee here [ [link removed] ]. We need better support services for our elders so they can age in place, live with dignity, and thrive in our communities. 

I also presented another bill to the Housing Committee I’m carrying. This bill [ [link removed] ] requires cities that issue rental licenses to also provide a copy of a Renter’s Bill of Rights – the Attorney General’s publication “Landlords and Tenants: Rights and Responsibilities” – to landlords each time they renew their rental license, either in a paper or electronic form. 

Regardless of the tie, I’ve always believed we as a state are stronger together, and for me, that means garnering bipartisan support where I can. Brooklyn Park and Osseo deserve results, and I’m working hard to deliver them for our neighbors.

As a proud former SEIU member and now a legislator, it was an honor to stand in solidarity with workers during SEIU Day at the Capitol. These halls feel different when you walk them with people who fight for what’s right—fair wages, safe staffing, dignified retirement, and strong unions for all.This isn’t just policy—it’s personal. I’ve been in this fight, and I remain in it, now with the responsibility and privilege of shaping the change our communities deserve.“What can we WIN together.”

*How Will Federal Education Cuts Impact You?*

Last week, the Trump/Musk Administration advanced reckless plans to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education. In response, the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) launched a public feedback portal at education.mn.gov [ [link removed] ] for parents, students, teachers, and community members to submit detailed accounts of the ways recent Executive Orders and abrupt federal education cuts are impacting schools and children across our state.

*More than 860,000 students in Minnesota depend on stable partnerships that have existed between their school communities, MDE and the U.S. Department of Education* across administrations. For decades, the federal investments facilitated through those partnerships have played a key role in ensuring students in Minnesota receive the support they need to learn and thrive, including:


* $256 million for students with disabilities
* $192 million for students from low-income backgrounds
* $27 million for academic enrichment
* $6 million for students in rural schools
* $38 million to support children living on military bases or Native American reservations
* $100 million for Career and Technical Education workforce development programs
