News from Congressman Mike Levin

Reading Time: 5 minutes

Dear Neighbor,

As your Representative, what matters most to me is delivering results for our community. I’m working every day to support our veterans, seniors, families, and environment. I believe in working together whenever possible—and standing firm whenever necessary.

I’ve been proud to get 34 of my bills signed into law—16 under President Trump and 18 under President Biden. But lately, the Trump Administration has made this bipartisan work harder. Their policies are putting Social Security, the VA, medical research, and other vital programs at risk.

I’ve been meeting with folks across our district to hear your stories and understand how these actions are hurting our neighbors. I’ll keep working to protect the people who call this community home.

Answering Your Questions at My Recent Town Hall

Image

Thanks to everyone who came out to my town hall in San Juan Capistrano. When I first got elected, I promised to hold a town hall every month—and I’ve kept that promise. This was my 121st town hall, and I was proud to be joined by constituents Suzie Dixon, Dr. Karl Steinberg, and Kolin Williams. They shared how the Trump Administration’s policies are threatening Social Security, Medicaid, and veterans’ benefits. It was a great chance to hear your questions, share updates from Washington, and talk about how I’m fighting to protect the programs our community relies on.

If you missed the town hall or would like to watch the event, a recording is available on my YouTube page.

Field Hearing on Cuts to the VA Workforce & Veterans’ Services

I also held a field hearing with local veterans and advocates to shine a light on how the Trump Administration’s reckless budget cuts—including plans to fire 83,000 VA employees—would hurt veterans here at home and nationwide. Veterans make up nearly a third of the federal workforce, and many work at the VA. These cuts would threaten not just their jobs, but also the health care and benefits millions of veterans depend on. Hearing directly from those affected helps guide my work and strengthens our fight to protect those who served.

Demanding Answers About the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Wasteful Water Release

Play ButtonRep. Mike Levin Question the Army Corps About Water Releases

At a recent Congressional hearing, I questioned Army Corps of Engineers officials about the Trump Administration’s decision to release two billion gallons of water in California. They couldn’t explain why it happened—so I led a letter demanding answers from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum. Records show the Corps followed Trump’s political order to “open the valves” even though the wildfires were already under control. That water was wasted, and in a state like ours—where we rely on every drop—this kind of carelessness drives up costs and threatens our water supply.

Sharing Constituent Stories

Play ButtonDr. Karl Steinberg shares how Medicaid cuts will hurt seniors in our District

Last month, House Republicans passed a budget plan that would slash Medicaid by $880 billion. My constituent Karl, who has spent 30 years overseeing nursing home care in San Diego, knows exactly what that would mean for health care access in our community. I hope you’ll take a moment to hear his perspective—because these cuts aren’t just numbers, they’re real impacts on real people.

Standing Firm Against a Harmful Government Funding Bill (CR)

Like many of you, I was deeply disappointed that Congress passed a partisan Continuing Resolution. I voted no because it included harmful cuts to our community and left out critical wildfire relief for California. While no one wanted a shutdown, this bill hurts our veterans, children, and seniors—and it gives the Trump Administration more power to bypass Congress.
