On this trip, I had two issues: First, I waited 15 minutes at the counter and then sat at my gate for two hours before being told to go back and give TSA the key to inspect the case. I made it back just in time, thanks to a helpful supervisor. Then when I landed, my rifle case came out on the main luggage carousel, even though it was supposed to be brought to the airline office for ID verification.
