We have an urgent update for you on new voter suppression legislation in Georgia:

Georgia lawmakers are trying to ram through a bill that would give unelected officials — who are aligned with election deniers — more power to determine who stays on the voter rolls and how our elections are run. It would also codify several anti-voter practices that a judge called “illegal, unconstitutional, and void.”

We need immediate grassroots support from activists like you as we fight to stop this bill before the legislative session ends next Friday. Please make a donation right away. [[link removed]]

This bill — HB 397 — is being considered in committee right now. If it passes through the General Assembly and gets signed into law, here’s the damage it would do to our elections:

* Enact a dangerous power grab by the State Election Board (SEB), an official elections body in Georgia with members that have close ties to Trump-connected election deniers.
* Give the SEB authority to decide appeals in voter purge cases — potentially siding with mass challengers over local election officials.
* Allow up to 90 days for the SEB to rule on an appeal after a county-level decision, leaving voters in limbo and the potential risk of missing elections.

It would also enshrine policies that bipartisan elections experts have called out as harmful:

* Mandated video surveillance of absentee ballot drop boxes.
* Expanded partisan poll watcher access to sensitive areas in elections offices.
* Ballot-counting procedures that create significant risk of human error and confusion.

Every Georgian deserves a fair opportunity to vote, but this bill creates new ways to block people from participating — even voters who may be wrongly challenged. And it fits into a broader pattern of Georgia lawmakers trying to cling to power by suppressing our votes.

At Fair Fight Action, we are mobilizing Georgians to call on their lawmakers to oppose this bill, we’re working alongside partners to lobby legislators, and we’re exposing all the ways this legislation would damage our democracy.

But we’re counting on donors like you to help ensure free and fair elections. As we race to stop this legislation, will you make a donation of any amount to power our work? [[link removed]]
