BREAKING: In Major Upset, Democrat James Malone Wins Pennsylvania Senate Special Election in An R+23 District

Yesterday, Democrat James Malone won a shocking, historic special election victory in Pennsylvania’s Senate District 36 — a district that went to Trump by 15 points in 2024 and has a 23-point Republican voter registration advantage.

Yesterday’s special election victory in Pennsylvania is further proof that voters are fed up with the Trump-Musk agenda — and they’re voting accordingly.

In 2025, Democrats continue to overperform in special elections as voters make their anger at Trump heard loud and clear.

Here at the DNC, we’re working hard to fight back. We’ve supported Pennsylvania Democrats in helping recruit volunteers who knocked on doors throughout the district and connected with voters in the lead-up to Election Day.

With the race ultimately coming down to a few hundred votes, those conversations made all the difference.

The only way we’re going to elect more Democrats who will check Trump’s power in their cities, states, and districts is by competing everywhere. And that’s exactly what we’re doing.
